Why Sachin's Great....
ok ok lots been written and said about him, he has not performed to expectations of late and is being categorised as being a shadow of his past glorius days.
here i would like to give my assessment of Sachin, why i call consider him greater compared to other contemporary cricketers in the game. here lets make a list of the strongest contenders for the best batsman tag, Sachin of course needs no mention, here are the others: Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Inzamam ul Hag, Mathew Hayden,Rahul Dravid
Ricky Ponting has been in great form of late, scoring centuries at will in tests. Brian Lara comes up with a cluster of big hundreds once in a while, Inzamam holds fort when the team needs him most. Mathew hayden a powerful striker, looks like a run machine, Rahul Dravid , the wall, is a carbon copy of the batting manual, so where does sachin stand in terms of accomplishments..
well, his technique is as strong as that of any other batsman.. dont forget , in the 90's he was termed as the batsman with the best defense. of late certain flaws have crept in, such as he plays away from his body at times. He isnt a powerful striker , but a clean one and better so. he has a wider inventory of shots, certain shots he has made up to compensate the shots he had to desist due to injuries.
more than the records he creates it is his ability to be consistent under such pressures which are unimaginable to us mortals
1.the pressure of the indian public who get flustered if he doesn't score a 50 or 100 once every 3 matches or so and still managing to remain consistent.
2.the pressure of fighting the injuries that surface every now and then.
3.making adjustments to his batting style according to the nature of his injury. notice that his stance has changed over the years, and now he uses his bottom hand more and thanks to the tennis elbow , the stalled straight drive is now extinct.
4.remaining such a humble person and not getting carried away with his achievements.
these are the attributes (especially the 3 & 4) that make me rate sachin higher than the others..
